Burna Boy Covers Billboard with Success, Melanin and a Warm Smile

The smile of Burna Boy on the Billboard Cover is some thing just heart warming. Mostly known as the rude rugged face, the Nigerian heart-warms with a smile and happy eyes that tell exactly how he feels; On top of the world.

With Billboard, the Igbo singer talks about his forthcoming Album, taking over the world and sticking to the devil he knows, which is why he prefers working closely with relatives and has managed to do business with his Mother who is his Momager.

Burna Boy is very specific on who he speaks to in every song.  “You have to know who you’re speaking to,” he says. “Some people don’t want to speak to the whole world”. But Burna’s message is one to be heard by every one, “It has always been my vision to build a bridge between all Black people in all parts of the world through the music and performance. Music is the No. 1 messenger,” he says. And the world is listening to him, at the 2021 Grammys, he won the Best Global Music Album after the album made it to the top of the charts.

In addition to his legacy, he dreams of causing a shift in the industry, like Christ, “You see how with Christ, there’s B.C. and A.D.? I feel like that’s how it is for me with performing. There’s going to be a ‘Before Burna Came’ and ‘After Burna’s Death’ time period in the performing arts world. That’s my legacy.”

Among love and and other things, Burna Boy reflects on music becoming more of therapy than business for him. But this is only because he now has the money. He clarifies to Heran the interviewer that “one can only say that if they have money. It’s not about that for me. It’s about that for my mom and my sister, though. That’s why we have arguments when it’s time to release stuff, because I just want to do what I want to do. And sometimes what I want to do is not the best thing for business,” Burna states.
