Ugandan fashion house Kai Divo’s collection launched and showcased their latest, an all white Collection Titled “The Rebirth” at the recently concluded Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Kigali.
As the name suggests, the Kaijuka uses this collection to usher in a new era after the recent turmoil from the pandemic and every thing society has had to endure as a whole. Kaijuka has not been able to showcase at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for the last two years although he had been invited year after year. “I never got to do the show because that time was either very busy for me or something always came up,” he says. When they reached out to him again this year, he knew he had to do that show.
When I ask why a white collection, Abbas says white is his favorite color and he has always wanted to do something in white. For this collection, Abbas releases a 20 pieces of all white playful but outstanding fashion that features mega hats, kimonos, jumpsuits, and two pieces, all channeling a purified spirit that highlights “the now”.
“I put too much emotion in that collection because of what it represents for me and many others, but white is also my favorite color so I wanted every pieces to be regal” Abbas says. The collection rests upon being fluid, pure, and daring. He further goes ahead to share with me his dreams of taking on the international fashion space. “I have always wanted to see my work internationally.” he says, and he is already on the go. He thinks other African designers should be more daring and put out their work out into international spaces; “because our talent is worth international sight” and he is already finding ways to put himself out there.
The collection is up for purchase through their fashion house, and even though some pieces are already sold out, they are available for purchase on order basis.
